Prague, Dec 25 (CTK) – Prague Archbishop Cardinal Dominik Duka came to the traditional dinner with the homeless and those feeling lonely at the Prague Archbishopric Palace on Monday.
The Community Sant’Egidio invited around 300 people to the dinner.
Along with food, the guests also received Christmas presents with clothing and sanitary needs. Those in need also could use medical services.
Kristina Koldinska, from the Community Sant’Egidio, said roughly 100 volunteers took part in the event, while another 100 or even more helped organise it since autumn.
The people in need received personal invitations to their names, Koldinska said.
“The people are no numbers of just cases. Names do matter,” Koldinska said.
The invitations were sent to the homeless, lonely elderly or the disabled, she added.
As usual, a duck with cabbage was the main course. There was also a soup and sweets.
Roughly 200 people were eating right in the Archbishopric Palace and another 100 in the seminary.
Duka started the dinner with a short speech in which he told those present that the distribution of dinner at Christmas had always been a tradition of Prague bishops.
“Do not look for happiness in much money and power. There is mostly fear,” Duka said before the joint prayer.
The dinner for the people in need was held for the 18th time at the Archbishopric Palace this year.
Koldinska said the costs amounted to tens of thousands of crowns.
