Prague, Dec 29 (CTK) – The annual New Year’s luncheon of Czech President Milos Zeman with the prime minister will be held on Tuesday, January 2, Zeman’s spokesman Jiri Ovcacek told media on Friday, adding that the wives of Zeman and Prime Minister Andrej Babis (ANO) will also be present.
Like in previous years, the meeting will take place in the Lany presidential chateau, central Bohemia, Ovcacek wrote in a press release.
“President Milos Zeman with his wife Ivana Zemanova will meet Prime Minister Andrej Babis and his wife Monika Babisova for a traditional New Year’s luncheon in the Lany chateau at 13:30 on Tuesday, January 2,” Ovcacek wrote.
In the past years, the tradition of New Year’s joint luncheons was maintained by Zeman and previous prime minister Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD), despite tense mutual relations.
On these occasions, they discussed the developments in the past year and plans for the year to follow.
This year, they lunched together in Lany on January 2.
Babis’s ANO comfortably won the October general election and formed a minority cabinet which Zeman appointed on December 13.
