Prague, Jan 10 (CTK) – British Ambassador to the Czech Republic Jan Thompson, who recently ended in office, offered for sale in charity auction her light blue Skoda 1000 MB made in 1968, which was sold for 610,000 crowns on Wednesday, the Embassy has said on Twitter.

The money will go to the Sue Ryder charity which helps people in need.

The initial bidding price was 30,000 crowns and the buyer wished to remain anonymous.

Thompson has said on her Twitter account she was sorry to be parting with her beloved car, however, that she was thrilled to have raised such a sum for such a good cause.

Her colleagues as well as Czech politicians acknowledged Thompson as one of the most distinctive personalities among foreign diplomats in Prague.

She played amateur theatre, enjoyed hiking in the mountains, was a football fan and was sport pole dancing. She said goodbye to the Czech Republic through an untraditional Christmas video inspired by the Love Actually romantic comedy.

She originally wanted to return to Britain with her old Skoda and her decision to abandon it was not an easy one. However, she is taking her two cats she has from an animal shelter with her, she said.

She assumed the post in Prague in September 2013 as an experienced diplomat who had worked in embassies in Germany, Libya, Afghanistan, in the Balkans and Thailand. Before she joined the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, she worked for the BBC TV station.

Nick Archer, her successor at the embassy, is scheduled to arrive at the weekend. According to the information on the British government’s website, Archer has occupied a number of diplomatic posts, including that of the Ambassador to Denmark. He will be another male ambassador after 17 years. Four women have held the post of the Ambassador to Prague since 2001.
