Prague, Jan 15 (CTK) – Fifty-two percent of Czechs are satisfied with the country’s healthcare system, which is the record highest share that was first reached in 2015 but slightly shrank last year, the CVVM’s December public opinion has shown.

However, the share of those dissatisfied has increased by 2 percent to 20 percent since 2015.

People see healthcare financing, drugs management and the performance of health insurers as the system’s most problematic aspects.

They consider relations between doctors and patients the least problematic of all, the poll showed.

The share of those satisfied with the system has returned to the record high volume of 2015 after a 7-percent decrease in 2016.

In December 2017, the share of those who were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied was 27 percent, compared with 30 percent in late 2016.

The ever worst result in this respect was that in December 2008, when 27 percent of the respondents voiced satisfaction while 44 percent said they were dissatisfied.

People’s assessment of the various problems in the healthcare system remains unchanged, compared with previous years.

More than two thirds still see big problems in the financing of public healthcare.

Three fifths say the same about drugs management and 55 percent about the performance of health insurers, the poll showed.

In other fields, positive assessments prevail over negative.

For example, when it comes to the volume of treatment provided by the public healthcare system, big problems were mentioned by two fifths of the respondents, while almost a half said there were no or almost no problems in this field.

Only 28 percent said there are problems in relations between doctors and patients, while 66 percent assessed them as trouble-free.

Similarly, people tend to assess the access to and the quality of healthcare positively.

Compared with the previous poll in 2016, people’s assessment of the performance of health insurers has worsened, with 9 percent more respondents describing it as problematic now.

“This means discontinuation of the previous trend of a declining assessment of health insurers’ performance as problematic, which started in 2012,” the CVVM said.

The CVVM conducted the poll on 1,000 respondents in December 2017.
