Bratislava, Jan 30 (CTK) – Curtis Scaparrotti, head of the U.S. military command in Europe, debated ways to secure fast transfers of allied units across the continent and planned joint exercises with chiefs-of-staff from eight Central and East European states on Tuesday, Slovak Chief-of-Staff Milan Maxim told media.
“One of the pre-conditions for a success of the military operation’s efficiency is the forces’ capability of quickly moving from one place to another, taking a position and being prepared for action. This is one of the goals of our training…, the removal of possible obstacles that may exist in the European space,” Maxim said.
He said each country has its own rules regarding the crossing of its borders, and the military representatives seek to remove possible problems and secure smooth transfers of armies, Maxim said, mentioning the German-based U.S. military convoys that crossed the Czech Republic and Slovakia on their way to exercises elsewhere in Europe in 2017 and 2016.
Scaparrotti, who is also Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), said cooperation of allies is necessary for securing countries’ safety.
It is a response to the conditions people currently live in, such as terrorism and the influencing of the public opinion. The current conditions completely differ from those four or five years ago, also due to information technologies and disinformation, Scaparrotti said.
Military units’ training in such conditions is very important, since actions need to be faster than in the past, he said.
Meetings of Central and Eastern countries’ chief-of-staffs with the U.S. military commander in Europe take regularly place in some of the countries of the region.
