Prague, Feb 8 (CTK) – Most Czech employees welcome people aged from 50 to 65 as colleagues at work, and only 13 percent would not like to cooperate with seniors, according to a poll conducted by the STEM/MARK agency for the Predvyber.CZ firm and released on Thursday.

Out of the 509 respondents polled online, 87 percent said they would like to work together with an elderly colleague.

Thirteen percent said they “would not prefer” this, but no respondent said “definitely not.”

According to 58 percent of the respondents, elderly employees are as efficient as their younger colleagues, while 24 percent consider them less efficient and almost 20 percent consider them more efficient.

The pollsters said a negative picture of elderly employees has been created by young people aged from 18 to 29, who described the seniors as less efficient more often than the other groups of respondents.

Young respondents ascribed shortcomings in elderly people’s work to their age more often than other respondents, and they said more often that they would not prefer working together with a senior.

“The findings mean a significant argument for employers, who often fear that seniors are not that efficient and cannot integrate in a younger team,” Predvyber.CZ company’s director Frantisek Boudny said.

He said the poll has shown that such fears are pointless, mainly now that there is a shortage of workforce on the market and many firms are starting to realise the advantages of employing experienced people, Boudny said.
