Prague, Aug 21 (CTK) – Pop music singer Karel Gott, 77, has got a certificate for receiving the highest number of popularity awards in Czech history from the Dobry den agency that has been administering Czech records for 20 years, the agency’s head Miroslav Marek has told CTK.
Gott has won the annual Czech Nightingale pop music contest, in which people give their votes to their most popular singer, 40 times. He has made about 300 records and tens of millions of his albums have been sold.
“During his extraordinary singing career, Karel Gott has won recognition across generations and he has become the man number one of Czech pop music, but also a highly respected personality,” the agency says in the certificate that its representatives handed to Gott earlier this week.
In the Hall of Fame of Czech Records, Gott accompanies the legendary travellers Jiri Hanzelka and Miroslav Zikmund, athletes Emil and Dana Zatopek, speedskater Martina Sablikova and the first Czech tinker, Petr Musil, among others.
