Anglo-American University (AAU) is proud to announce a new B.A. program in Jewish Studies: History and Culture beginning in September 2012. The program is the first of its kind in Central Europe to be taught entirely in English. AAU held a press conference on June 11, 2012 to formally announce the program.
This exceptional program examines Jewish historical and cultural influence in Central Europe and makes use of extensive research on the role the region has played in the Jewish experience through the centuries.
The accreditation process for the Jewish Studies program has involved a number of leading academics in the field. It envisions closer cooperation with the Prague Jewish Community, local and regional museums and other partners to ensure a compelling approach to this dynamic program.
The program will be housed at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at AAU and will draw classes and faculty from the established programs in Humanities, Society and Culture, as well as from the recently established interdisciplinary program in Central European Studies. Students will have the chance to travel around the Central European region and to learn Hebrew and German as part of their studies.
AAU already has a student exchange agreement in place with the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya, a leading private university in Israel and is currently in talks with IDC and the Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education at Chapman University (USA) about greater academic cooperation.
Speakers at the press conference included university president Assoc. Prof. Alan Krautstengl, Ph.D., Ambassador of Israel to the Czech Republic H.E. Yaakov Levy, Counselor for Public Affairs at the United States Embassy Mr. Robert Zimmerman, university Provost Prof. Phdr. Milada Polišenská, CSc., and program guarantor and lecturer Doc. Dr. Jiří Kašný, Th.D.
