Brussels, Feb 16 (CTK special correspondent) – The EU summit on February 18-19 should designate the stemming of the migrant flow as the Union’s fundamental and key priority in tackling the crisis, Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek said on behalf of the Visegrad Group (V4) on Tuesday.
The V4 is comprised of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
Zaoralek informed his EU colleagues of the Prague V4 summit held in Prague on Monday, which was also attended by representatives from Bulgaria and Macedonia.
The six countries want to push through into the EU summit conclusions a mention of hotspots in Greece and Italy where they say the migrants should stay until their asylum applications are settled.
Zaoralek said the other EU foreign ministers accepted the information of the Prague summit “quite favourably.”
He said they praised the fact that the V4 countries favour an all-European solution and that there is agreement on the developments along the Greek-Turkish border that is of key importance, the ability of Greece to manage the situation and support for the joint EU-Turkish plan.
Zaoralek said European Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans praised the good work of the Prague summit.
Zaoralek said “we want all to maximally participate in reaching the major goal – the stemming of the migrant flow.”
