Boletice, South Bohemia, Feb 23 (CTK) – More than 250 Czech soldiers are preparing for inclusion in an EU battlegroup under German command which they will join on July 1, Tomas Spok who directs the February 22-24 exercise, told journalists on Tuesday.

The training is participated in by a logistics regiment, a light motorised battalion and medical staff.

The exercise is supervised by representatives from the German military.

On Tuesday, the soldiers trained reaction to an assault on a convoy with humanitarian aid and the handing over of humanitarian material to NGOs representatives.

Spok said the Czech soldiers could be deployed in a military operation within a 6000-kilometre band around Brussels.

“We are ready to fulfill these tasks anywhere, but nothing specific has been planned as yet. If we were tasked by the military committee of the EU Council, we are capable of fulfilling the task within 30 days,” Spok said.

The whole project does not fall within the NATO structures. The EU military committee is an EU body active within the Joint Foreign and Security Policy.

It associates the chiefs-of-staff of the EU countries.
