Jihlava, South Moravia, June 29 (CTK) – The main cause of why Britain is leaving the European Union is the British concern about “the absolute incapability” of the current EU leadership, Czech President Milos Zeman said during his visit to the Vysocina Region on Wednesday.
Zeman said the EU is “a wonderful project with miserable leadership.”
The EU institutions supply the member countries with totally absurd regulations, he said, adding that he was a Eurofederalist.
Zeman said EU Commissioner Vera Jourova told him that she was working on regulations on the unified production of wax or ink for laser printing machines.
“If red-tape maniacs issue such regulations but, for example, are unable to protect the outer EU border from the migration wave, it is no wonder that one becomes disgusted with such leadership and leaves the project,” he said.
Brexit means a loss for both sides, Britain and the EU, Zeman said.
He said the British departure will weaken the EU.
He also said he expects Scotland to separate from Britain within five years and enter the EU.
Zeman mentioned former European Commission President Jacques Delors and Jean Monnet, one of the founders of the European Coal and Steel Community in the early 1950s, as great personalities who strongly influenced the project of European integration.
