Prague, Jan 1 (CTK) – A ceremonial changing of the guards at the Prague Castle, the seat of Czech heads of state, watched by hundred of people, and an exceptional opening of its rooms for visitors marked the 25th anniversary of the independent Czech Republic on Monday.
So far, the exhibition has been seen by 5700 visitors.
The motorcycles of the Castle Guard drove to the ceremony at which the Music of the Castle Guard in its triple number was playing.
In the rooms, one can see the original of the Czech constitution, both the Czech and Czechoslovak standards as well as the wishes the first Czech president Vaclav Havel received from world statesmen.
While the changing of the guards was mostly watched by foreign tourists, the exhibition was primarily visited by Czechs.
They could see the supreme state decorations and original documents from the collections of the Presidential Office Archives relating to Havel, such as the wishes from U.S. presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton.
This year, the Prague Castle will stage a number of large exhibitions commemorating the 100 years since Czechoslovakia’s birth.
Between January 10 and 15, there will be an exhibition called On the Bases of Statehood in the Imperial Stables at the Prague Castle.
It will present the most significant documents and some archeological relics that are connected with the foundations of the statehood, including two sheets of he original Golden Bull of Sicily, an imperial decree granting the royal title to the sovereigns of Bohemia in 1212, and precious medieval Books of the Gospels.
Then the Czech regalia will be put on display and three large exhibitions, called Through the Labyrinth of History of the Czech Lands, the Touches of Statehood and The Guard at Prague Castle, will follow.
