Prague, Feb 1 (CTK) – The Czech Republic will give minimally six million euros in aid of Syria and its region this year, according to CTK’s information.

Most of the sum will go to development aid.

Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) is to announce the level of the Czech aid at a donors conference in London on Thursday.

The international conference entitled “Supporting Syria and the Region in 2016” follows up similar events held in Kuwait in 2013-2015.

Its aim is to raise finances to continue and further extend humanitarian and development aid from the international community to Syria and its neighbouring countries, says the document to be submitted to the ministers on Wednesday.

The Czech Republic is set aside 4.4 million euros for development aid and 1.6 million euros for humanitarian aid, including the Medevac programme of humanitarian evacuations, the Madad EU Regional Trust Fund for Syria and the New Elites for Syria scholarship programme.

In 2015, the Czech aid in connection with the conflict in Syria amounted to 190 million crowns.
