Kamenice nad Lipou, South Bohemia, Feb 1 (CTK) – Veterinary experts confiscated over 200 maltreated dogs, who were quite neglected and suffered from various diseases, from a breeder on Wednesday, Petr Majer, spokesman for the National Veterinary Administration (SVS), told journalists on Thursday.

The vets took the action along with the police and firefighters. The dogs were placed in various animal homes across the Czech Republic.

The police are investigating the woman who owned them, Majer said.

“With the extent of the violation of the rules for breeding of animals, this is quite an exceptional, virtually horrible case,” the SVS said in its press release.

Regional police spokeswoman Stanislava Milackova has confirmed that the police are investigating the case.

The veterinary inspectors made the first check on the basis of a tip at the end of last year. The breeder refused to let them in and only showed 13 dogs for the veterinary check. Some of them were in a bad state and were consequently placed in animal homes.

The SVS then told the police that there was a suspicion of a crime and asked for a permit for a home search. It was then conducted and another 212 dogs were found there.
