Prague, May 1 (CTK) – Interior Minister Milan Chovanec has sacked Karel Kadlec, a police officer prosecuted for driving under the influence and crashing 29 vehicles with his SUV in Prague in April, from the Czech police corps, he said on Twitter.
Chovanec said previously Kadlec would have to leave the police if the suspicion of driving under the influence is confirmed.
Kadlec is prosecuted by the General Inspection of the Security Forces (GIBS). He may end up in prison for up to three years. The damage incurred was set at two million crowns.
Three weeks ago, Kadlec crashed his off-road vehicle into many cars parked in a street in the central part of the city. When the police caught him, he refused to produce his driving licence and undergo a breathalyzer test, but he agreed to take a blood test, which showed 1.31 promille, which is well over the limit (0.5 promille).
At the end of last year, Kadlec was put off duty and dismissed as a teacher at the police academy over a similar driving incident. A year ago, he bumped his Jeep into a car that drove in front of him and stopped at a pedestrian crossing. When he reversed, he bumped into another car. A breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol content was 1.5 promille.
A court considered this an offence, but the prosecutor appealed and the case will be dealt with again this week.
