Ustí nad Labem/Teplice, North Bohemia, Oct 30 (CTK) – Two cargo trains had a head-on collision near Velvety early Friday morning, killing the driver of one of them and stopping rail operation between Usti nad Labem and Bilina, Martin Drapal, spokesman for the Rail Safety Inspection, told CTK.
He said several carriages derailed.
According to the initial information, one of the trains probably did not heed the stop signal. Even though the general stop was applied, the trains collided, Drapal said.
Police spokeswoman Ludmila Svetlakova said one train crashed into a stationary one. The engine of the former train was completely destroyed.
