Prague, May 3 (CTK) – Czechs are among the world leaders as far as the popularity of barbecue and grilling is concerned, daily Pravo writes on Tuesday, adding that 96 percent of Czechs have experience with grilling and 25 percent attend a grilling party more than ten times a year.
The figures were registered within a survey of beer consumers, Pravo writes.
Another survey, focusing on the Tesco retail chain, showed that every Czech spends 100 crowns on a grill appliance on average.
“Grilling parties are a very popular way of Czechs meeting their families or friends. Most of them (97 percent), prefer grilling meat, while 74 percent grill mainly sausages, 68 percent vegetables and 55 percent prefer fish,” Tesco spokesman Vaclav Koukolicek is quoted as saying.
Only 9 percent of the Czechs who buy meat for grilling buy pre-sauced meat, the rest prefer preparing the sauce themselves, the poll showed.
Grilling is an inseparable part of summer activities of Czechs, though it cannot be considered a healthy method of preparing meals, in view of the applied high temperatures, overheated oil and a high content of fat, nutrition specialist Katerina Simkova told the daily.
