Brno, July 2 (CTK) – An increasing quantity of medicines is flowing from Poland to the Czech Republic where high-quality pervitin (metamphetamine) is produced and sold in Germany, Supreme State Attorney Pavel Zeman told CTK Thursday.

As a result, state attorneys and police in the countries in question must intensify their cooperation in the struggle against the drug producers, Zeman said.

The sale of Czech pervitin in Germany is no longer confined to the regions bordering with the Czech Republic, but, renamed as crystal, it is also available in Berlin, he added.

There is the problem that unlike the Czech Republic, the sale of the medicines from which pervitin can be produced is not limited in any way in Poland, Zeman said.

A bill limiting the sale of the medicines was submitted in the Polish parliament, but Polish lawmakers are not in a hurry with its enactment, Zeman said.

“Poland is not facing any problem with pervitin. It is the domain of producers in the Czech Republic,” he added.

Some Vietnamese living in the Czech Republic contribute to the production of pervitin, Zeman said.

In the Czech Republic, pervitin is the most used narcotic. The National Drug Centre (NPC) has registered 4,555 drug-related crimes in the Czech Republic, he added.

About 48 percent of them related to pervitin, 43 percent to marihuana and only 2 percent to heroin and 1 percent to cocaine, Zeman said.

The number of perivitin labs is decreasing, while the quantity of seized pervitin is rising in the Czech Republic, he added.

In 2008, the police uncovered 434 pervitin labs, seizing a mere 3.8 kilograms of the drug. Last year, they uncovered 271 labs and confiscated 52 kilograms of pervitin.

The statistics has clearly indicated that the production of pervitin has changed, Zeman said.

Large-scale production is gaining ground, while a substantial part of the drug is shipped to Germany, primarily to Bavaria and Saxony, he added.

The business is profitable, Zeman said, citing some NPC figures.

The costs of the production of one kilogram of pervitin from Polish medicines in the Czech Republic are estimated at 170,000 crowns. In Germany, the kilogram is sold to criminal groups for the wholesale price of 350,000-450,000 crowns, he added.

“There is an effort to deliver chemicals for the production of pervitin from the Balkans and Asia,” Zeman said.

“It is necessary to thoroughly cooperate with foreign partners, to wait for the measures against the sale of the medicines in Poland and not to neglect drug prevention at home,” he added.
