Prague, Dec 2 (CTK) – The Czech military will create new units of active reserves, in which also doctors should serve, and some of the already existing will be extended, such as the Centre of Biological Protection in Techonin, east Bohemia, Chief-of-Staff Josef Becvar said on Wednesday.

The Techonin facility is a military hospital specialised in treating the most dangerous infectious diseases.

Becvar told the Chamber of Deputies defence committee that the new military plans also provide for raising the number of active reserves.

He said he supposes that the full number could be attained five years earlier.

Becvar said the active reserves could form “a new military” that would complement the professional one.

“Sometime in the future, when the Czech Republic will have the strength, they (active reserves) may have up to 10,000 members,” Becvar said.

The valid plan provides for the creation of 59 units by 2025. The determined number of members of every infantry company will be raised from 150 to 172 and also entirely new units will be formed. Active reserves will be newly in Techonin, for instance.

“To maintain a permanent organic unit in Techonin is very demanding, we have peace, no special situations emerge,” Becvar said.

That is why the military wants to create an active reserve that would be deployed if needed. He said the doctors-specialists will be recruited from the civilian environment.

“We have signals from doctors who would like to work in the active reserves,” Becvar said, adding that former military doctors are among them.

The military will stage the reservists´ biggest exercise next year. Companies of active reserves will also train together with the integrated rescue system members and the Ceska posta postal service. In September, nine selected infantry companies will take part in a large international air forces exercise, Ample Strike 2016.

The military opened a new recruitment centre in Prague last week that is destined for both professional service as well as the active reserves.
