Prague, Feb 4 (CTK) – Seventy-seven percent of Czechs are satisfied with their life and 67 percent of the questioned said they consider the year 2015 their personal success, according to a STEM poll conducted in January and released to CTK on Thursday.

Almost a half of Czechs assess last year as successful from the all-society point of view, yet negative feelings such as fear and anger prevail in a half of the assessments of last year, the poll showed.

Even though people perceive the developments in the whole society less favourably, the current results are better than in the years before.

In January 2014, a mere one fifth of Czechs considered the year 2013 successful from the all-society point of view. Personal satisfaction keeps at the same level as in January 2015.

A better assessment of their life than one year ago was given by younger people, people with a higher education, a good financial background and supporters of rightist and centrist parties.

There are no distinct differences of the opinions of the development of society between people coming from various socio-demographic groups.

One third of people believe that changes in society brought more justice in the past year. This opinion was expressed most often by supporters of the government ANO movement of Andrej Babis.

The positive assessment of the development of society in 2015 prevails among supporters of various political parties with the exception of Communists (KSCM).

“The proportion of favourable opinions of the development in society compared with January 2014 also increased in all political camps. It was rather lower among supporters of the [opposition rightist Civic Democrats] ODS and the [junior government Christian Democrats] KDU-CSL, STEM said.

Negative feelings in connection with last year were expressed by 45 percent of Czechs compared with 40 percent who had positive feelings. The remaining 15 percent said they mainly feel fatigue or boredom.

Year-on-year, the share of positively-minded people dropped by 5 percentage points, while the share of negatively-minded people rose by 7 percentage points.

The poll was conducted on 1015 people between January 11-19.
