Los Angeles, April 4 (CTK correspondent) – Another joint meeting of the Czech and Israeli cabinets will be held in Prague in May, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka told journalists during his visit to the USA on Sunday, adding that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will also be present.
Israel is among several countries with which the Czech Republic regularly holds similar inter-government meetings.
“The inter-government consultations will continue. In May, representatives of the Israeli government, including the prime minister, will come to Prague to attend a joint meeting of the ministers of the Czech and Israeli governments,” Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) said.
The security situation in Israel will be among the issues on the agenda, he said.
The ministers may also discuss bilateral economic relations and cooperation in science and research.
Israel was the first country where Prague instated a permanent diplomat in charge of science cooperation.
The Czech Republic is one of Israel’s closest European allies.
Although Sobotka’s centre-left government, appointed in early 2014, is trying to seek a more balanced position towards the Palestinians, compared with the previous right-wing cabinets, its relations with Israel still keep above standard.
The first joint meeting of the two countries’ governments took place in Prague in 2012, another one in Israel in 2014, when the two sides signed several agreements on cooperation in defence, science, social and health care and culture.
Apart from Israel, the Czech Republic holds regular government consultations with Slovakia and Poland.
