Prague, April 5 (CTK) – Slovak diplomat and actress Magda Vasaryova, German journalist Souad Mekhennet, British conservationist Tony Fitzjohn and former CNB Czech central bank governor Zdenek Tuma received the Hanno R. Ellenbogen Award for their contribution to civic society in Prague on Tuesday.

The award has been bestowed by the Prague Society for International Cooperation on the personalities who significantly helped develop civic society for the 14th time in a row this year.

The Prague Society for International Cooperation was established in 1999 as an organisation of Czechs and foreigners with the aim to support individuals who will try to restore devotion to civic society.

The award bears the name of the mother of the Society President Marc Ellenbogen. She spent years with her family in the post-war divided Germany, believing that barriers between nations and people must be overcome in a positive manner.

In the past years, the award was given, for instance, to Czech president Vaclav Havel, Polish historian and journalist Adam Michnik, the former U.S. secretary of state with Czech roots, Madeleine Albright, the Tibetan Dalai Lama, Czech-born U.S. film director Milos Forman and famous Czech gymnast Vera Caslavska.
