Brno, Oct 5 (CTK) – The Regional Court in Brno has rejected the complaint that U.S. citizen Kevin Dahlgren, charged with murder of four, filed against his pre-trial custody in the Czech Republic, the court’s spokeswoman Simona Tesarova told CTK Monday.
The rejection of the complaint cannot be appealed, Tesarova said. The court made the decision last week, she added.
Dahlgren, who was extradited from the United States to the Czech Republic in August, wanted to be prosecuted without taking into custody and offered a bail.
Dahlgren’s lawyer said previously he did not expect the complaint to be successful.
The young American man is staying in a custody prison in Brno-Bohunice. The date of his trial has not been set yet. He may be sentenced to life if found guilty.
Dahlgren is charged with having killed his Czech cousin, her husband and their two sons in Brno in May 2013. After the murder, he took taxi to reach Vienna, from where he left for the United States. During the flight, the Czech authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, based on which he was detained by the FBI on his arrival at the Washington airport on May 23.
Dahlgren was in custody in the United States from May 2013. The Czech authorities were negotiating about his extradition that was approved in late August. This has been the first case of the United States extraditing its citizen to the Czech Republic.
At present, Dahlgren is being interrogated by the police and psychiatrists and psychologists are examining his mental health. He pleads not guilty. The motive of the murders is unknown. It has been speculated that the young man had psychological problems.
