Prague, July 6 (CTK) – The result of the Greek referendum is a slap in the face of the European nomenclature, but the Greeks have solved nothing with their Sunday vote rejecting the terms of further financial aid, former Czech president Vaclav Klaus said in a written statement sent to CTK Monday.

“The main result of the referendum is a slap in the face of European nomenclature, the strengthening of the position of Prime Minister Tsipras and the call on the European Union to provide further finances to Greece, which the EU will gladly do in the end, despite all its dramatic statements,” writes Klaus, a staunch opponent to the EU integration.

In a referendum, the Greek government should have asked the citizens whether they want to stay in the euro zone or not, Klaus writes.

The problem of the indebted Greece cannot be solved without Greece leaving the euro zone, he adds.

In a text released on the website of his think tank a week ago, Klaus writes that Greece had to accept economic parameters inadequate for its economy along with the euro and that the only solution now would be to abandon the euro in an organised way.

In reaction to the Greek referendum result, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) said on Sunday that the Greeks have chosen the worse and harder option not only for Greece but also for whole Europe.

On Monday, Sobotka said the euro zone membership is connected with the keeping of rules that apply to all members.

“If we want the Portuguese, the Spaniards or the Italians to meet certain budgetary rules, we cannot repeatedly agree on special terms for Greece,” he said.

The European solidarity may be lower due to the Greek “no,” he added.

The euro zone was established in 1999, having 11 members then, and the euro banknotes and coins have been used since 2002.
