Brno, Oct 6 (CTK) – Regional hospitals will be threatened with privatisation if the Social Democrats (CSSD) no longer run the regions after the forthcoming elections to the assemblies, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (CSSD) told journalists on Thursday.
Sobotka said since the Social Democrats were opposed to the privatisation of the health facilities, businesspeople were waiting for the outcome of the elections.
The elections to regional assemblies are set for October 7-8.
Sobotka stressed that the Social Democrat (CSSD) would not allow the privatisation, as they should stay under the public administration.
Many healthcare businesspeople would like to buy some hospitals, Sobotka said.
“However, none are up for sale because this is prevented by the Social Democrats. But if they have no longer the force to defend the hospitals, they may be either privatised or leased,” he added.
Preventing the sale of health facilities is the most important thing, Sobotka said.
“We are clearly a guarantee for those who are against privatisation. We will not allow it in any region. People should think of it when making their decisions before they vote,” Sobotka said.
The Social Democrats have 11 of the 13 posts of regional governors. However, their main coalition partner, Finance Andrej Babis’s ANO, leads public opinion polls.
