Olomouc, North Moravia, July 7 (CTK) – Czechs will help Haitians by buying tap water in the restaurants, cafes and night-clubs in Olomouc that have joined the project Cheers Haiti, Vaclav Keprt, from the organising Caritas of the Archdiocese of Olomouc (ACHO), has told CTK.

People can contribute by any sum to the project by buying the water, Kepr said.

The proceeds from the fund-raising project, that will last throughout the summer holidays in the town, will be sent to health care, he added.

The ACHO has been helping Haitians for a number of years, Keprt said.

It has been possible to buy tap water in Olomouc establishments for the purpose since early July, he added.

“Both barkeepers and restaurant owners have joined the project in the town,” Keprt said.

“We have found out that many people go to the selected establishments deliberately in order to provide the help,” Keprt said.

The project reacts to the shortage of drinking water in Haiti.

“We sponsor projects with clean water, which is a tremendous problem in Haiti. At the country, the crushing majority of people do not have access to clean drinking water,” Keprt said.

ACHO humanitarian workers have been helping Haiti, the poorest country of the Western hemisphere, for ten years.

They built and maintain the school in Baie de Henne for 350 children.

Czechs also paid money to build a new school in Gonaives with over 650 schoolchildren.

In the town, there is a consultancy center for undernourished mothers with children and a rehabilitation department for the handicapped.

At present, the ACHO is planning a practical school project. It is to be opened in Baie de Henne where the second store is to be built.

Haitians are to be taught modern methods of fishing, agriculture, mechanics, sewing and business basics.

The ACHO is also successfully sponsoring a remote adoption project that has been joined by over 300 regular Czech donors.
