Prague, Sept 7 (CTK) – The Czech government plans to recruit some 12,300 new civil servants in 2016, public Czech Television (CT) reported Monday, referring to a draft state budget bill that the cabinet is to debate on Wednesday.
The number of civil servants would thereby rise by 3 percent year-on-year to more than 436,000 and the expenditures on them by ten billion crowns.
There are almost 424,000 civil servants in the Czech Republic of 10.5 million inhabitants this year, which is a similar figure as in the past years. It has been slightly decreasing since 2012 when it amounted 425,090.
In 2016, it is to rise again by several thousand, mainly over the rise in the education sector staffing by about 6000. They are to help manage a rising number of primary schoolchildren caused by baby-boomers.
The police or the Interior Ministry staff will increase by 2500 newcomers.
Interior Minister Milan Chovanec (Social Democrats, CSSD) told CT that 1100 new people would be deployed to deal with the refugee influx, 800 would join the police corps and the rest would be new ministry employees to fulfil the tasks connected with the new civil service law.
The Defence Ministry will recruit 1200 to 1400 new employees, the Finance Ministry almost 700, mainly over the introduction of electronic registration of sales, and the Agriculture Ministry expects 250 newcomers.
The costs of civil servants will rise next year not only because of new employees, but also over the planned pay rise.
