Prague, Sept 8 (CTK) – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka will meet representatives of the U.S. military convoy crossing the Czech Republic in Prague on Wednesday, government spokesman Martin Ayrer told CTK Tuesday.
The convoy will be crossing the country on its way from the Vilseck base, Germany, to NATO’s Brave Warrior 2015 exercise in Hungary.
Stoltenberg will spend two days in the Czech Republic. On Wednesday, he will have negotiations with a Czech government delegation headed by Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) and including Deputy PM and Finance Minister Andrej Babis (ANO), Deputy PM for science, research and innovations Pavel Belobradek (Christian Democrats, KDU-CSL), Defence Minister Martin Stropnicky (ANO) and Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek (CSSD).
“The main topic of the talks will be NATO’s adaptation to the changing security conditions,” Ayrer said.
Before the talks, Stoltenberg and Sobotka will meet soldiers from the U.S. convoy in the Prague-Ruzyne military barracks.
The first part of the convoy, an advanced unit of about 20 vehicles and 60 troops, will be crossing the Czech Republic on Wednesday and Thursday to prepare the route for the convoy’s transit scheduled for Sunday and Monday.
The U.S. units will enter the Czech Republic from Bavaria through the Waidhaus-Rozvadov border crossing, west Bohemia, and continue via Prague to the Czech military Training Command headquarters in Vyskov, south Moravia, where they will spend the night.
On the next day, the convoy will continue its way eastwards and leave the Czech Republic for Slovakia in Lanzhot, south Moravia.
Stoltenberg is to meet Czech Senate chairman Milan Stech on Wednesday evening, and Chamber of Deputies chairman Jan Hamacek (both CSSD) on Thursday.
President Milos Zeman will receive Stoltenberg at 11:00 on Thursday, Zeman’s spokesman Jiri Ovcacek told CTK Tuesday.
He said the meeting will focus on international terrorism. Zeman also wants to acquaint Stoltenberg with his proposal of a U.N. resolution founding an international anti-terrorism unit.
This will be the first Czech visit by Stoltenberg, who took up the top NATO post in October 2014.
