Prague, Jan 9 (CTK) – President Milos Zeman is in a good physical and mental condition, feeling good before the forthcoming presidential election, his doctor Martin Holcat and other doctors told journalists on Tuesday.
They dismissed the notion that Zeman suffered from cancer.
No answers were allowed at the press conference.
Speculations abound about Zeman’s health.
Last year, Zeman seemed to suffer from some health problems during his public appearances. He often looked tired and considerably lost weight.
When announcing his re-election bid last March, he said he had undergone a medical check-up confirming he suffered from diabetes and polyfunctional neuropathy impairing the sensitivity of his feet. He added that his health condition was neither improving nor deteriorating.
He underwent a CT examination in September that did not reveal any new problem, he said.
Zeman called the reports on his health troubles “a dirty campaign of some media.”
The Presidential Office has filed an action against Svatopluk Bartik, a local politician from Brno, for having tweeted that Zeman has cancer.
It demands an apology and five million crowns from him.
Oncologist Lubos Petruzelka denied that Zeman had cancer at the press conference.
He said he was not a member of the doctors’ team and was asked to review the documentation independently.
Petruzelka said on the day of the check-up he had not find any signs of an oncological disease in Zeman.
Holcat said Zeman was constantly watched, adding that he could confirm that Zeman felt very good.
Zeman’s doctor Miloslav Kalas said Zeman’s health condition must be good given his schedule as president last year.
In the first six months of 2017, Zeman visited China, Vietnam and Kazakhstan.
Kalas said Zeman’s health condition was such that he could keep executing his post.
