Brno, Feb 9 (CTK) – A 33-year-old Czech woman gave birth to a boy by caesarean section in the 31st month of pregnancy while she was in a four-month coma in mid-January and the baby has already been released from the hospital where it spent three weeks in an incubator, Dagmar Seidlova told CTK on Tuesday.

Seidlova, head anaesthesiologist of University Hospital in Brno, said a delivery by a comatose woman is unique. The treatment was difficult and its results uncertain.

The boy weighed 1.9 kilograms at birth and he is now looked after by the mother’s brother.

“We have only known a similar treatment from expert literature. I think it can be said without exaggeration that something like this happens once in ten years,” Seidlova said.

The mother went into a coma after a traffic accident, in which she suffered brain and the cervical spine injuries, from she has been slowly recovering.

The woman woke up from anaesthesia after the childbirth, but she remains in a vegetative state, which means she is again in a coma.

However, her condition has started to improve. She moves the left hand and leg, doctors have registered an effort to sit up on the bed, she opens the eyes and fixes her look.
