Czech hospitals treat 97,185 foreigners in 2014

Prague, July 9 (CTK) – Czech hospitals treated 97,185 foreigners in 2014 and their treatment cost 724 million crowns, which is about 78 million more than in 2013 when 94,357 foreigners were treated, according to the data on the website of the Czech Institute of Health Information and Statistics (UZIS).

The highest numbers of the foreigners treated last year were nationals of Slovakia (21,874), Ukraine (10,769), Russians (9887), Germans (8187) and the Vietnamese (6228).

Most foreigners were treated in Prague (47,690), Brno and the surrounding South Moravia Region (11,449) and the Karlovy Vary Region (8854).

Nearly half of the foreigners paid for the medical treatment in cash and their payments represented over 40 percent of all cash payments in 2014.

The treatment of 24 percent of the foreigners was covered from their foreign health insurance and that of 22 percent from the health insurance that they paid in the Czech Republic.

The medical treatment of about 60 percent of the Vietnamese and Chinese was covered from the health insurance they arranged in the Czech Republic, which showed that these Asian communities living in the country have a responsible attitude to their health, UZIS writes.

Out of the total costs of the treatment provided last year (724 million crowns), 30 million remained unpaid. Out of the treatment provided in 2013, 33 million were not covered.
