Prague, Sept 10 (CTK) – A Prague court punished on Wednesday a surgeon for trying to bribe traffic police by offering medical treatment and prescriptions, including for viagra and contraception pills, to them, daily Mlada fronta Dnes (MfD) writes Thursday.

The court imposed a one-year suspended sentence on the doctor, Pavel Ditl, who unsuccessfully asserted that the offer he made to the police was a joke.

“I basically agree with the prosecution. However, I did not offer any bribe. I only wanted to ease the atmosphere,” Ditl, who works as a vascular surgeon in Prague’s Na Bulovce hospital and lectures at Charles University, told the court.

A two-member traffic police patrol stopped his car in Prague in the night in January. Since, his breath smelled of alcohol, they subjected him to a breathalyser test, which showed 1.21 per mille of alcohol in his blood, MfD writes.

Aware of the troubles he might expect, Ditl asked the police whether the situation could be solved in “a non-standard way.”

“I’m a vascular surgeon…I will perform operations on everyone, on you as well as your wives and everyone else you would want…Or I will issue one million prescriptions for viagra or contraception pills for you,” the two officers, who testified as witnesses in the courtroom, quoted him as saying.
