The 18th annual Forum 2000 Conference is taking place this year under the theme Democracy and its Discontents – A Quarter Century after the Iron Curtain and Tiananmen. The opening ceremony keynote speaker Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Russian businessman and former prisoner of conscience, spoke of the need for dissidence in the face of authoritarian regimes.
