Vyskov, South Moravia, Dec 13 (CTK) – The driver of a stolen car whom the police chased in the Vyskov vicinity died after police opened fire at the van to stop it on Monday afternoon, police spokeswoman Stepanka Komarova wrote on the police web page on Tuesday.

The driver did not react to the police’s repeated calls to stop and he immediately threatened their lives with his dangerous driving, Komarova said.

That is why the police used coercive means to stop the van, she said.

Komarova said the driver died on the spot in consequence of the injury he suffered when the police used an arms.

A post-mortem will either confirm, or rule out whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or narcotic and psychotropic substances.

The man committed property crimes in the past, the police said.

Like in other cases in which the police use a service arms, the General Inspection of Security Corps (GIBS) will check this case, Komarova said.
