Prague/Ulaanbaatar, July 15 (CTK) – President Milos Zeman and Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka expressed today regret to and sympathy for the victims of the terrorist attack in the French town of Nice last night that has claimed at least 80 victims.

During his visit to Mongolia, Zeman said he was for a more resolute action against terrorists and Sobotka stressed the determination to defeat the “perverted fanaticism.”

“In connection with the terror in Nice, Zeman is expressing a deep regret and sympathy for the victims’ families,” Zeman’s spokesman Jiri Ovcacek said on Twitter today.

“Zeman warns of a whole series of these attacks that should prompt a more resolute action against terrorists,” Ovcacek said.

Zeman is attending the summit of heads of state and government of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).

Sobotka, too, expressed sympathies to the families.

“I feel enormously sorry for the frustrated human lives,” Sobotka said.

“In the struggle against terrorism, France has our full support and solidarity. The perverted fanaticism that disdains human lives must be defeated mercilessly,” Sobotka said.

At least 80 people died and another 18 suffered severe injuries in the attack in which the assailant drove with a lorry into a crowd of the people expecting the fireworks on the French national holiday.

The police shot dead the attacker, a French man of Tunisian origin.
