Liberec, North Bohemia, June 15 (CTK) – A regional court sentenced Czech doctor Jaroslav Bartak to 15 years in prison for planning three murders and blackmail on Wednesday, due to which he is to spend a total of 27 years behind bars.
In 2014, Bartak was sentenced to 12 years in prison for raping his assistants.
From the punishment, he has served almost five years.
Bartak has immediately appealed the verdict, pleading not guilty.
According to the indictment, Bartak planned the murder and blackmail while in a remand prison in autumn 2013.
The indictment says he was planning the murder as a revenge for his previous verdicts. He wanted to use the money to be gained from blackmail for an escape from the prison. He spoke about the plan with his fellow prisoner who then tipped the law enforcement bodies.
Bartak said he had not really meant it, arguing that he was also under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Bartak is also facing charges of bribery and obstructing justice. If convicted, he may be sentenced to another six years in prison.
Experts said in a previous trial that Bartak is a strongly psychopathic, narcissistic personality, capable of anything in order to protect himself, but that he suffers from no mental disorder. Blackmailing and planning murder is part of his personality, he would be able and ready to have the three men killed if it were technically possible, the experts said.
In his previous trial, Bartak was convicted of six cases of rape, five cases of blackmail, sexual pressure and manipulation with narcotics.
Bartak demanded sex from his female assistants as part of their work and he forced them into it by threats, citing his contacts with prominent personalities, in 2006-2011.
The scandal was triggered by one of the former assistants whom Bartak abused during a holiday in the Philippines.
