Decin, North Bohemia, Jan 16 (CTK) – Czech firefighters intervened over a leak of the highly corrosive peracetic acid at a department store in the town of Decin on Tuesday and rescuers drove seven people to hospital, but their health condition does not seem serious, the head of the firefighters’ intervention told CTK.
He said a jerrycan with the acid broke, but the firefighters managed to get the situation under control quickly.
“The acid has been diluted and liquidated, the area has been ventilated,” the officer said.
He said seven people breathed the acid and doctors were monitoring their health condition in hospital.
Peracetic acid is used as a disinfectant and it has a strong oxidation potential.
