Prague, June 17 (CTK) – The first part of a cartoon series about the Mole, which Czech artists are making for the Chinese state television CCTV, was be premiered in the presence of Czech President Milos Zeman and Chinese Vice-Premier Liu Yandong at Prague Castle Wednesday.

In the first part of the planned 52-part series, the Mole, a popular cartoon hero designed by Czech illustrator Zdenek Miler (1921-2011), acquaints himself with a panda and goes to China where the rest of the series stories will take place.

Zeman promoted the Mole and attended the signing of the film coproduction contract during his visit to China last year.

The animated series The Panda and the Mole is being made in international coproduction of the Chinese company CCTV Animation and the Czech company Little Mole Cartoon, owned by Miler’s grand daughter Karolina Milerova and cooperating with a private Chinese investor.

Each part of the series will be about ten minutes long. The respective stories have been written by a team of CCTV screenwriters.

Milerova said she believes her grandfather would be proud of the new work.

The series is to be completed and start to be broadcast in early 2016.

It is expected to be watched by some 300 million child and adult spectators in China.

If the series is a success, the producers may make another one, whose stories might take place in the Czech Republic.

The coproduction contract between CCTV and Little Mole Cartoon guarantees the broadcasting rights to both sides. In the Czech Republic, the broadcaster will be public Czech Television (CT).
