Prague, Dec 16 (CTK) – The migrant crisis in Europe should be solved by eliminating its causes and by a comprehensive protection of the EU outer border, Czech senior elected officials agreed at their meeting with President Milos Zeman Wednesday, his spokesman Jiri Ovcacek has said in a press release.

They stressed the need of a concerted strategy for the sake of the preservation of the Schengen Area and to prevent its fragmentation.

“The top officials consider it necessary to solve primarily the causes of the migration flows in the countries of origin. It is not good to only focus on the redistribution of asylum seekers among EU countries,” the press release said.

The statement stresses efficient functioning of the registration centers for the refugees in Italy and Greece that do not work well.

Their system cannot be considered functional, they added.

The Czech Republic is still ready to provide experts and equipment, the press release said.

The meeting was attended by Zeman, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD), chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Jan Hamacek, chairman of the Senate Milan Stech, Interior Minister Milan Chovanec, Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek (all CSSD) and Defence Minister Martin Stropnicky (ANO).

They agreed that within the EU and NATO, the Czech Republic should keep insisting on the broadest possible cooperation in the fight against terrorism and continue with its support for the struggle of the international coalition against Islamic State.
