Prague, June 18 (CTK) – The Czech government supports the idea of establishing special camps for refugees from North Africa and the sinking of the smuggling ships that transport the people to Europe, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) said in the Chamber of Deputies Thursday.
The government is ready to sponsor the measures, Sobotka said in the question time, replying to the question by deputy Marek Zenisek (TOP 09).
The sinking of the ships requires a consent by the United Nations Security Council.
The European Commission has a mandate for the talks, Sobotka said.
He said it was hard to imagine an agreement on such an operation with the squabbling factions in Libya. None of them will agree with its implementation in Libyan territorial waters, he added.
The Czech Republic is ready to support the operation financially or by experts, Sobotka said.
He said the Czech Republic was already supporting the refugee camps in Jordan and would do the same if they were formed in North Africa.
Europe should focus on the stabilisation of the countries from which most immigrants are coming and the efficiency of the Schengen border should be increased, Sobotka said.
He said he was against the quotas for the redistribution of the refugees as suggested by the European Commission.
Sobotka said the people traffickers’ networks should be called organised crime.
He said this was a profitable business in which hundreds of thousands of millions, perhaps billions of dollars were involved.
