Prague, March 21 (CTK) – The Czech Republic will send 100 million crowns in support of the European countries afflicted by the migrant wave this year, according to a new programme of the Interior Ministry that the government approved on Monday, the Government Office said in a press release.
The first 20 million crowns will go to material support for the Greek and Macedonian governments.
The aid has been offered in reaction to the conclusions of the EU summit last week at which member countries reached agreement with Turkey on returning migrants and also decided to raise support for the Western Balkans and the eastern and southern Mediterranean.
The Interior Ministry said its programme in support of the countries tackling strong migration pressures is the Czech Republic’s contribution to a European solution to the migrant crisis.
The ministry will gradually propose the division of the remaining 80 million crowns and the government will approve specific projects and activities.
The functioning of the programme will be assessed by a group comprised of representatives from the interior, foreign, industry and labour ministries and the Government Office.
