Prague, March 21 (CTK) – Several hundred Czech police officers will help protect Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to the Czech Republic next week, the spokespersons for the Police Presidium and Prague police told CTK on Monday.
The security measures in Prague will include road traffic restrictions and some public places and historical sights mainly in the city centre will be temporarily closed.
Xi Jinping will visit the Czech Republic on March 28-30. It will be the first visit by a Chinese head of state in the history of the Czech Republic and its predecessor Czechoslovakia.
The main result of the visit is to be a joint statement on strategic partnership between the Czech Republic and China. Several memoranda on cooperation in the areas of investments, finances, aviation and health care are to be signed, too.
The Czech police are in charge of the protection of significant foreign guests in a standard way, Police Presidium spokesman Jozef Bocan said.
Before their arrival, the police are assessing the security situation in the Czech Republic and in the world and cooperate with foreign partners.
Security measures are then taken on the basis of the findings, but details are not released for tactical reasons, Bocan added.
Hundreds of police from the special, nationwide and regional squads will protect the security of the Chinese president’s visit.
The Prague police do not intend to release particular data on the planned restrictions and closures for tactical reasons.
Drivers should follow information portals and signs on the road, Prague police spokeswoman Andrea Zoulova said.
Short-time restrictions will be applied to the route of the Chinese president’s motorcade, Bocan said.
Security measures will be taken in the Central Bohemia Region as well since Xi Jinping will visit the Czech presidential summer residence in Lany chateau there, west of Prague. This is why the chateau park and some adjacent streets will be temporarily closed.
