Prague/Seoul, Sept 21 (CTK) – The Kyung Hee private university in the South Korean capital of Seoul granted a honorary doctor’s degree to former Czech president Vaclav Havel (1936-2011) in memoriam Monday, the communication section of the Czech Centres has told CTK.

The Czech Centre in Seoul has prepared an accompanying programme on Havel’s work and life on this occasion.

In addition, a colloquium focused on his political and philosophical ideas was held in Seoul. It was attended by Czech literary historian Martin C. Putna and four South Korean experts in Havel’s work.

Havel, playwright, thinker and dissident, was the last Czechoslovak and the first Czech president (1989-2003). After he left the post, he primarily focused on the promotion of human rights in the world. He died at the age of 75 years on December 18, 2011.
