The Czech Republic’s “Mr. Budget,” Eduard Janota died of a heart attack at the age of 59 on Friday afternoon. He collapsed while playing tennis with a friend. Attempts by the emergency services to revive him were unsuccessful. Janota joined the Finance Ministry in 1978 and become head of the budget department in 1992. He spent around 25 years in that ministry.
