A group of Czech non-governmental organisations urged senators on Wednesday to put President Václav Klaus on trial for treason for his New Year’s amnesty that released thousands from prison. Under Czech law, senators are authorised to file lawsuits with the country’s constitutional court if they suspect a serving president and other senior government executives of treason.
