Prague/Berlin, Jan 23 (CTK) – Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis will take part in the Munich Security Conference that will be held on February 16-18 along with Foreign Minister Martin Stropnicky and Defence Minister Karla Slechtova (all ANO), he told CTK on Tuesday.
“I was invited. We confirmed my participation, including a request for an address. We are waiting for the confirmation of the programme,” Babis said.
Stropnicky and Slechtova will deal with the agenda of their ministries at the traditional conference.
The participants are to include Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis as well as Chancellor Angela Merkel and other top German politicians.
Last year, the conference mainly focused on the new U.S. President Donald Trump. U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said in Munich that the U.S. allies in NATO should more contribute to the common defence. Pence may attend the conference next month again, too.
Trans-Atlantic relations, the outlook of the European Union, new security threats, the situation in Syria and Ukraine are likely to be the issues on which the conference will focus.
