Zeman sends condolences to Assad over terrorist attack

Prague, Feb 23 (CTK) – Czech President Milos Zeman sent condolences to Syrian President President Bashar al-Assad over the weekend terrorist attacks in Damascus and Homs that claimed more than 100 lives, Zeman’s spokesman Jiri Ovcacek said on the Presidential Office website on Tuesday.

On Monday, the attacks were condemned by the Czech Foreign Ministry and other countries such as Russia and France.

The terrorist attacks at first occurred in the centre of Homs. They were followed by four explosions in the Shiite district of Damascus. The attacks were claimed by Islamic State.

Along with over 100 deaths, the attacks caused tens of injuries, some of them serious.

Zeman has received the news on the terrorist attacks with sadness, the wire says.

Zeman wrote to Assad that he wanted to express sincere sympathy to him, the victims’ families and the whole people of Syria.

The civil war in Syria has killed 400,000 Syrians and another 70,000 lost their lives due to the lack of health care and clean water.
