Prague, July 26 (CTK) – The acquittal of nurse Vera Maresova, who was charged with the murder of six patients in the hospital in Rumburk, north Bohemia, is valid after the Prague High Court dismissed the appeal by the state attorney’s office on Tuesday.

The families of the dead patients may seek the compensation they demand in civil proceedings.

According to the indictment, Maresova killed intensive care unit patients with potassium in order to ease her work in 2010-14.

The state attorney demanded a life sentence for Maresova in the trial at the Usti Regional Court, but the court acquitted her, saying it did not find any direct evidence of her alleged criminal activities.

The expert opinion according to which she was killing the people with potassium was challenged by both the defence’s expert and experts from the Olomouc University Hospital, who said the claims about poisoning were not confirmed and that the patients’ deaths were to be expectable.

State attorneys then demanded a completion of the evidence, but the Prague High Court did not allow this yesterday.
