Prague, June 27 (CTK) – The Czech Republic will provide Syria with a total of 195 million crowns in humanitarian and development aid and for reconstruction works by 2019, the government decided on Monday, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka has written on Twitter.

The aid is to mainly go in support of education and renovation of healthcare, school and social facilities.

In connection with the conflict in Syria, the Czech Republic has been providing Syria with money for humanitarian aid, but the Foreign Ministry says these means are insufficient.

That is why it has proposed the release of further money to alleviate the consequences of the years-long conflict and to moderate the migrant wave.

The aid is designated for the whole territory of Syria, including the besieged towns. The money can be used for projects in which local NGOs, business and academic entities will participate in cooperation with Syrian and international organisations and for sending experts, organising trainings and providing scholarships for studies at Czech public universities.

“Aid will also be provided for the restoration of healthcare, education and social facilities and other infrastructures needed for economic and social development. A portion of the aid will be spent on a longer-time support for education and the development of civic society, local communities and their self-rule authorities,” the ministry wrote in its report for the government.

The Czech Republic would like to reinforce economic diplomacy in Syria in the years to come.
