Prague, Feb 27 (CTK) – About 50 people took part in the European march for the rights of refugees in Prague on Saturday, at the end of which they launched symbolic little boats on the Vltava River in the city centre.

The international event is simultaneously held by about 100 cities in 23 countries, including the USA and Canada.

“We believed that it was necessary to organise the event in Prague as well. Some one million refugees have come to Europe and the whereabouts of many are unknown. We want to call on the government and the European Commission to treat everybody as a human being,” Kristyna Bohacova, from the organising student group Solidarity, said.

The participants spoke against nationalist solutions that some politicians have been pushing for.

Europe must not close its borders, they said.

“The right to asylum is one of the European values,” one of the participants said.
